BPT-37 served the Navies of Great Britain and Italy

BPT-21 Class Motor Torpedo Boat:

  • Laid down 26 December 1941 as BPT-37 by Robert Jacob Shipyard, City Island, Bronx, NY
  • Launched 27 July 1942
  • Completed 17 February 1943, transferred to Great Britain and named HM MTB-295
  • Commanded by T/Lt Hugh Somerville Cassidy, RANVR from June 1944 - September 1945
  • Returned to U.S. Navy custody 25 September 1945
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in February 1948, further transferred to Italy at Palermo, Sicily and reclassified as a Torpedo Recovery Craft, GIS-0018
  • Cannibalized for spares and scrapped.

    Specifications:

  • Armament: One twin .50 cal. Vickers machine gun in Mk V turret, two 21" torpedoes and two depth charges
  • Propulsion: Three 3,600shp Packard W-14 M2500 gasoline engines, three shafts.
