PC-1256 served the Navies of the United States and Portugal

PC-461 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 28 October 1943 by the Luders Marine Construction Co., Stamford, CT
  • Launched 21 May 1944
  • Commissioned USS PC-1256, 27 October 1944
  • Struck from the Naval Register 12 April 1946
  • Transferred to the War Shipping Administration 15 March 1948, sold to Portugal and named NRP São Tomé (TM)
  • Scrapped in 1970.

  • Draft 10' 10"
  • Speed 20.2 kts.
  • Complement 65
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, one 40mm gun mount, five 20mm guns, two rocket launchers, and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 1,440bhp Hooven-Owen-Rentschler R-99DA diesel engines, Westinghouse single reduction gear, two shafts.
