c. August 1943 PC-1121 on launching dolly at Defoe Shipbuilding. The hull on the left is inverted. After welding on the inverted hull was completed, two 50 foot eccentric wheels were clamped into position and the hull rolled over onto a launching dolly. The actual roll over was performed by a crane and required the labor of about 12 men for about 10 minutes. PC-471 was the first subchaser rolled over in August 1941 Photo courtesy of the Great Lakes Institute |
