PC-461 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 27 October 1943 by Commercial Iron Works, Portland, OR
  • Launched 4 December 1943
  • Commissioned USS PC-809, 20 March 1945 at Puget Sound Navy Yard, Bremerton, WA
  • Struck from the Naval Register 12 April 1946
  • Transferred to the War Shipping Administration in March 1948
  • Transferred to Portugal in 1948 and renamed Sal (P 584)
  • Fate unknown.

  • Beam 23'
  • Draft 10' 10"
  • Speed 19 kts.
  • Complement 65
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, one 40mm gun mount, five 20mm guns, two depth charge projectors, two depth charge tracks and two rocket launchers
  • Propulsion: Two 2,560bhp Hooven-Owen-Rentschler RB-99DA diesel engines, Westinghouse single reduction gear, two shafts.
