PC-547 served the Navies of the United States (2 months) and Brazil
PC-461 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 16 April 1942 by the Defoe Shipbuilding Corp., Bay City, MI
  • Launched 22 May 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-547, 24 July 1942
  • Transferred to Brazil 24 September 1942 and named Gurupí (CS 2)
  • Reclassified G-2 after World War II
  • Reclassified as a Training Ship J-17 in the 1950s
  • Decommissioned 18 September 1959
  • Scrapped 4 November 1959.

  • Length 173' 8"
  • Beam 23'
  • Draft 10' 10"
  • Speed 20.2 kts.
  • Complement 65
  • Armament: Two 3"/50 dual purpose gun mounts, three 20mm guns, two Mousetrap depth charge projectors, four K-gun depth charge projectors, and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 1,440bhp General Motors 16-258S diesel engines (Serial No. 6908 and 6909), Farrel-Birmingham single reduction gear, two shafts.
