PC-461 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 8 August 1941 by George Lawley and Sons, Inc., Neponset, Massachusetts
  • Launched 27 February 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-464, 15 May 1942 and assigned to escort convoys between the Panama Canal and the Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as well as other Caribbean and South American ports
  • Reassigned to the Pacific Fleet and participated in the invasion of Leyte in October 1944
  • Sold 12 January 1947 to the A. G. Schoonake Co. of New York
    Naval Vessel Register of 1 January 1949 lists sale date as March 1947
  • Converted later in 1947 to a salvage vessel by Symonette Shipyard, Ltd., Nassau, Bahamas and named Sea Salvor
  • Acquired in 1972 by the Freedom Shipping Co., converted to a mailboat and renamed New Day
  • Inactive by the 1980's
  • Fate unknown
  • PC-464 earned one battle star for the Leyte landings during World War II.

  • Propulsion: Two 1,440bhp Fairbanks Morse 38D8 1/8 diesel engines (Serial Nos. 832243 and 832244), Westinghouse single reduction gear, two shafts.
