BYMS-2240 served the Navies of Great Britain and Greece.

YMS-1 Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 11 April 1942 as YMS-240 by the Stadium Yacht Basin, Inc., Cleveland, OH
  • Launched 31 October 1942
  • Completed 25 May 1943, transferred to Great Britain and reclassified HMS J-1040
  • Reclassified HMS BYMS-2240
  • Returned to U.S. custody 7 May 1946, transferred to Greece the same day and named Ithaki (M 214)
  • Struck from the Naval Register 8 September 1952
  • Struck from the Greek Navy registry in 1966
  • Fate unknown.

  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts, and two depth charge projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
