BYMS-76 served the Navies of Great Britain and Greece.

BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 17 August 1942 as BYMS-76 by the Wheeler Shipbuilding Corp., Whitestone, NY
  • Launched 8 May 1943
  • Completed 26 June 1943, transferred to Great Britain and reclassified J-876
  • Reclassified BYMS-2076
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in January 1948 and sold to a Greek purchaser
  • Returned to U.S. custody 12 February 1948 (on paper only)
  • Acquired by the Royal Hellenic Navy in 1959 and named Prokyon
  • Reclassified A-232
  • Struck in 1968.

  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
