BYMS-57 served the Royal Navy and Greek Customs

BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 7 May 1942 as BYMS-57 by Westergard Boat Works, Inc., Biloxi, MS
  • Launched 15 January 1943
  • Completed 21 July 1943
  • Transferred to Great Britain 22 July 1943 and reclassified HM J-857
  • Reclassified HM BYMS-2057
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in August 1947 and sold to Greek Customs as a contraband chaser
  • Returned to U.S. custody 1 September 1947 (on paper only)
  • Fate unknown.

  • Displacement 270 t.
  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
