BYMS-55 served the Navies of Great Britain and South Korea

BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 30 April 1942 as BYMS-55 by Westergard Boat Works, Inc., Biloxi, MS
  • Launched 7 December 1942
  • Completed, transferred to Great Britain and reclassified HMS J-855, 6 May 1943
  • Reclassified HMS BYMS-2055
  • Returned to U.S. custody 28 February 1948, transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission, sold to South Korea and named Ko Yung (YMS 515)
  • Scrapped in 1959.

  • Displacement 270 t.
  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts, and two depth charge projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
