BYMS-54 served the Navies of Great Britain and Greece.

BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 25 August 1942 as BYMS-54 by the Gibbs Corp., Jacksonville, FL
  • Launched 31 December 1942
  • Completed 26 June 1943
  • Transferred to Great Britain 29 June 1943 and reclassified J-854
  • Reclassified BYMS-2054
  • Transferred to Greece and named Aura in 1946
    Naval Vessel Register of 1 January 1949 lists transfer to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission as January 1948 and sold
  • Returned to U.S. custody 12 February 1948 (on paper only)
  • Scrapped in 1962.

  • Displacement 270 t.
  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
