BYMS-42 served the Navies of Great Britain and Italy.

BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 15 October 1942 as BYMS-42 by the Barbour Boat Works, New Bern, NC
  • Launched 26 June 1943
  • Completed 11 November 1943
  • Transferred to Great Britain 13 November 1943 and reclassified HMS J-842
  • Reclassified HMS BYMS-2042
  • Returned to U.S. custody 3 December 1945
  • Struck from the Naval Register 5 December 1945
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in November 1947; sold to Italy and named Gladiolo (DR 417)
  • Reclassified M-5416
  • Struck from the Italian registry in 1966
  • Fate unknown.

  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts, and two depth charge projectors
