BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 14 May 1942 as BYMS-38 by Barbour Boat Works, New Bern, NC
  • Launched 30 September 1942
  • Completed 14 April 1943
  • Transferred to Great Britain 20 April 1943 and reclassified HMS J-838
  • Reclassified HMS BYMS-2038
  • Returned to U.S. custody 10 April 1946 (on paper only)
  • Loaned to The Netherlands 18 March 1946 and named Marsdiep (MV 36)
  • Sold to The Netherlands 27 July 1947
    Naval Vessel Register of 1 January 1949 lists transfer to the Netherlands as March 1947
  • Reclassified MV-24 and M-834
  • Reclassified as a Diving VesselA-906 in 1956
  • Struck from the U.S. Naval Register in 1956
  • Withdrawn from service in 1962 and struck from the Netherlands Navy list
  • Fate unknown.
