BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper

  • Laid down 11 August 1941 as BYMS-30 by Barbour Boat Works, New Bern, NC
  • Launched 12 March 1942
  • Completed, transferred to Great Britain and reclassified HMS J-830, 29 July 1943
  • Reclassified HMS BYMS-2030
  • Sunk by mine 8 October 1944 off Le Havre, France at 49° 27' N., 00° 02' W.
  • Struck from the Naval Register 22 December 1944.

  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts, and two depth charge projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
