BYMS-2142 served the Navies of Great Britian and Italy

YMS-1 Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 22 April 1943 as YMS-142 by the Astoria Marine Construction Co., Astoria, OR
  • Launched 16 August 1943
  • Completed, transferred to Great Britian 30 September 1943 and reclassified HMS J-942
  • Reclassified HMS BYMS-2142
  • Struck from the Naval Register 28 October 1947
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in November 1947, sold to Italy and named Azalea
  • Struck from the Italian Navy list in 1966
  • Fate unknown.

  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts, and two depth charge projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
