AMS-172 Class Motor Minesweeper: Laid down in 1953 as AMS-253 by Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie, Cherbourg, France under the off-shore procurement plan of the Military Defense Assistance Pact; Launched 12 December 1954; Completed 10 January 1955 as Procyon (M 745); Reclassified by U. S. Navy as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-253, 7 February 1955; Commissioned 22 April 1955; Returned to U.S. custody in 1970. Fate unknown.
Specifications: Displacement 375 t.; Length 144'; Beam 27'; Draft 8' 3"; Speed 14 kts; Complement 39; Armament one 20mm; Propulsion 880 shp General Motors diesel engines, two shafts.
