MSC-180 was built in The Netherlands.

MSC-172 Class Coastal Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 10 February 1954 as AMS-180 by Arnhemsche Shipbuilding Co., Arnhem, The Netherlands under the off-shore procurement plan of the Military Defense Assistance Pact and based on the design of the British "Ton"

  • Launched 21 May 1955
  • Reclassified by U. S. Navy as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-180, 7 February 1955
  • Completed 1 April 1956
  • Commissioned Venlo (M 817), 26 April 1956
  • Underwent Fleet Rehabilitation and Modernization (FRAM) program 1974/1975
  • Placed out of service 7 October 1977 and laid up in reserve
  • Struck from the Naval Register in 23 December 1993 and sold for scrap to R. Zorn at Haarlem, The Netherlands.
