  • Laid down 22 December 1953 as AMS-179 by L. K. Smit & Zn.Kinderdijk, The Netherlands under the off-shore procurement plan of the Military Defense Assistance Pact and based on the design of the British "Ton" Class

  • Reclassified by U. S. Navy as a Coastal Minesweeper, MSC-179, 7 February 1955
  • Launched 30 March 1955
  • Completed 20 March 1956
  • Commissioned Giethoorn (M 815), 29 March 1956
  • Completed Fleet Rehabilitation and Modernization program 7 October 1977
  • Placed out of service 12 March 1982 and laid up in the reserve fleet
  • Struck from the Naval Register 23 December 1993 and sold for scrap to the Zorn firm of Haarlem, Holland.
