Algerine Class Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 7 January 1943 as AM-338 by Toronto Shipbuilding, Ltd., Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Renamed Redfern Construction Company in August 1943)
  • Launched 8 July 1943
  • U.S. Navy contract canceled 20 December 1943
  • Contract taken over by Royal Navy and completed 3 April 1944 as HMS Truelove (J 303)
  • Reclassified M-303
  • Scrapped at Blyth, England in December 1957.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 850 t.
  • Length 225'
  • Beam 35' 6"
  • Draft 8' 6"
  • Speed 16.5 kts.
  • Complement 85
  • Armament: One 4" mount and eight 20mm mounts
  • Propulsion: One verticle triple expansion, reciprocating steam engine, two shafts.
