Algerine Class Minesweeper: Laid down 7 September 1942 as AM-332 by Toronto Shipbuilding, Ltd., Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Renamed Redfern Construction Company in August 1943); Launched 8 December 1942; U.S. Navy contract canceled 20 December 1943, taken over by the Royal Navy and completed as HMS Melita (J 289); Scrapped 25 February 1959.
Specifications: Displacement 850 t.; Length 225'; Beam 35' 6"; Draft 8' 6"; Speed 16.5 kts; Complement 85; Armament one 4" and eight 20mm mounts; Propulsion verticle triple expansion, reciprocating steam engine, two shafts.
