AM-326 served the Navies of Great Britain and Greece

Algerine Class Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 21 February 1942 as AM-326 by Toronto Shipbuilding, Ltd., Toronto, Ontario, Canada
    Renamed Redfern Construction Company in August 1943
  • Launched 31 August 1942
  • Completed 23 October 1943, transferred to Great Britain and named HMS Arcturus (J 283)
  • Returned to U.S. custody in 1946
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in February 1948, sold to Greece and renamed Pyrpolitis (M 76)
  • Sunk as a target in 1984 off Crete.

  • Displacement 850 t.
  • Length 225'
  • Beam 35' 6"
  • Draft 8' 6"
  • Speed 16.5 kts.
  • Complement 85
  • Armament: One 4" mount, four 40mm mounts, four 20mm mounts, and eight twin 20mm mounts
  • Propulsion: Two Admiralty boilers, two 6,000shp verticle triple expansion, reciprocating steam engine, two shafts.
