  • Laid down, 29 June 1942, at Dravo Corp., Neville Island, PA.
  • Launched, 19 September 1942
  • Commissioned USS LST-3, 8 February 1943, LT. Roy E. Butler, USN, in command
  • During World War II USS LST-3 was assigned to the Europe-Africa Middle East Theater and participated in the following campaigns:

    Campaign and Dates Campaign and Dates
    Sicilian occupation, 9 to 15 July and 28 July to 17 August 1943 Invasion of southern France, 15 August to 25 September 1944

  • Decommissioned, 23 December 1944, at Bizerte, Tunisia
  • Royal Navy History
  • Commissioned into the Royal Navy, 24 December 1944, at Bizerte, as HM LST-3
  • Known to have visited Messina, Taranto Brindisi, Bari, Venice, Trieste, Naples, Piraeus, Malta and Gibraltar
  • Was at Taranto from, 28 September 1945, for repairs
  • Sailed back to the United States by Royal Navy crew in April 1946
  • Returned to US Naval custody, 12 May 1946
  • Struck from the Naval Register, 19 June 1946
  • Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, 10 September 1947, to Boston Metals Co., Baltimore, MD.

    Typical loads
    One Landing Craft Tank (LCT), tanks, wheeled and tracked vehicles, artillery, construction equipment and military supplies. A ramp or elevator forward allowed vehicles access to tank deck from main deck
    Additional capacity included sectional pontoons carried on each side of vessel amidships, to either build Rhino Barges or use as causeways. Married to the bow ramp, the causeways would enabled payloads to be delivered ashore from deeper water or where a beachhead would not allow the vessel to be grounded forward after ballasting
    Armament (varied with availability when each vessel was outfitted. Retro-fitting was accomplished throughout WWII. The ultimate armament design for United States vessels was
