A 2006 graduate of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program from Villanova University, Commander Matt earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He is originally from Willow Grove, PA, but grew up in Bowie, MD.
A career surface warfare officer, Commander Matt’s shipboard assignments include: USS ASHLAND (LSD 48) as Machinery Division Officer and Electrical Officer, USS DOYLE (FFG 39) as Auxiliaries Officer, USS WILLIAM P. LAWRENCE (DDG 110) as Engineer Officer, USS SAN ANTONIO (LPD 17) as Engineer Officer, and USS NEW YORK (LPD 21) as Executive Officer. Ashore, he served as Watch Officer and Desk Officer for the Arabian Peninsula within the Middle East Division of the Multiple Threat Alert Center at NCIS Headquarters, as well as conducting a tour as the Lead Instructor for both Diesel Engineering and Common Core Engineering at Surface Warfare Schools Command, Newport, Rhode Island. Most recently, he was the Course Director for the Senior Amphibious Warfare Officer course at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group, Atlantic.
His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
