CDR Sean Burke was raised in Angola, New York. He attended the United States Naval Academy and received his commission in 1997.
His first tour of duty was aboard USS JUNEAU (LPD 10) where he served as Weapons Officer and deployed for a hull swap with USS DUBUQUE (LPD 8) in Sasebo, Japan. In March 2000, CDR Burke reported aboard USS BOONE (FFG 28) as the Navigation and Administration Officer. The tour included a Counter Drug Operations Deployment to the U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command area of responsibility.
In 2002 CDR Burke became an instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy. While on shore duty he earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
In April 2005, CDR Burke reported aboard USS TORTUGA (LSD 46) where he served an eighteen month tour as 1st Lieutenant. The ship supported Hurricane Katrina Relief Operations and also deployed to Japan for a hull swap with USS FORT MCHENRY (LSD 43). In October 2006, he transferred to his next assignment as Training Officer aboard USS BATAAN (LHD 5) where he deployed to the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility.
During the summer of 2008, CDR Burke was assigned for academic duty under instruction at Air Command and Staff College (ASCS), Maxwell Air Force Base. He received a Masters Degree in Military Operational Art and Science.
In July 2009, CDR Burke reported to the Pentagon. His Pentagon tours included Aide-de-Camp to General James Conway, 34th Commandant of the Marine Corps, and Congressional Liaison for the office of the Under Secretary of the Navy for Appropriations Matters.
CDR Burke became Executive Officer, USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44), in August of 2013 and Commanding Officer in June of 2014.
CDR Burke’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
