CDR Etta C. Jones USN

CDR Jones graduated from Greenwood Community High School, Greenwood, Indiana in 1982. She enlisted as an Electronics Technician in 1985. After serving seven years in the enlisted ranks, she graduated from New Hampshire College with a Masters of Business Administration in 1990 and was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 1992.

Her first tour of duty was aboard USS WHITE PLAINS (AFS-4), where she served as Replenishment at Sea Equipment (RASE) Officer, Electrical Officer, and Auxiliaries Officer. While on WHITE PLAINS, she participated in Operations Desert Storm, Southern Watch and Restore Hope. After the decommissioning of WHITE PLAINS in 1995, she transferred to USS KINKAID (DD-965) as Damage Control Assistant and later, Main Propulsion Assistant.

In July 2000, CDR Jones reported to USS BRISCOE (DD-977) as Chief Engineer and deployed to the Mediterranean Sea. In July 2002, CDR Jones reported to USS MONTEREY (CG-61) as Chief Engineer and completed a deployment to the Arabian Gulf. In June 2004, CDR Jones was selected to attend the Naval War College (NWC). While assigned to NWC, she obtained a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. She also completed the Executive Analysis for the Warfare Commander elective area of study.

CDR Jones’ tours ashore include Action Officer Surface Forces Pacific Staff (N1); NROTC Purdue University Instructor; Surface Ship and Submarine Construction and Conversion Programs Section Head (OPNAV N80). CDR Jones was awarded the Col. Leo A. Codd Memorial Award for outstanding ROTC instructor while serving at Purdue University.

In November 2005, CDR Jones reported to USS WHIDBEY ISLAND (LSD-41) as the Executive Officer. WHIDBEY ISLAND deployed to the Arabian Gulf. Additionally, WHIDBEY ISLAND conducted Lebanon Noncombatant Evacuation Operations and was awarded the 2006 Battle Efficiency Award.

CDR Jones’ awards include the Meritorious Service Medal; Navy Commendation Medal; Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
