  • Launched, 4 August 1944
  • Commissioned USS Circe (AKA-25), 10 November 1944, LCDR. Victor J. Barnhart, USNR, in command
  • During World War II USS Circe was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater;
    TransRon Fifteen, CAPT. W. S. Popham USN (14);
    TransDiv Forty-Five, CAPT. A.C. J. Sabalot USN (20) and participated in the following campaign:
    Asiatic-Pacific Campaign
    Campaign and Dates
    Okinawa Gunto operation
    Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, 1 to 6 April 1945

  • Following World War II USS Circe was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East from 8 October to 12 December 1945
  • Decommissioned, 20 May 1946, at Eureka Shipbuilding Corp, Newburgh, N.Y.
  • Struck from the Naval Register, 5 June 1946
  • Returned to the Maritime Commission, 26 June 1946, for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Hudson River Group, N.Y.
  • Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, 22 January 1964, to First Steel and Ship Corp.
  • USS Circe received one battle star for World War II service
