  • USS Cyane sailed for duty in the Mediterranean
  • Returning to Norfolk, 16 May 1841, before being reassigned to the Pacific Station
  • Returning to Norfolk, 1 October 1844
  • USS Cyane was again assigned to the Pacific, 10 August 1845 where she served throughout the Mexican War
  • Assigned to the Home Squadron, 10 October 1851, cruising the Atlantic and Caribbean
  • Reassigned to the Pacific in August 1858
  • Decommissioned and placed in ordinary at Mare Island Navy Yard, Vallejo, CA., 20 September 1871
  • Struck from the Naval Register, date unknown
  • Sold at auction, 30 July 1887

    DuPont 96k Rear Admiral Samuel Francis Du Pont (September 27, 1803 - June 23, 1865). A member of the prominent Du Pont family; he was the only member of his generation to use a capital D. He served prominently during the Mexican-American War (commanding USS Cyane) and the Civil War, was superintendent of the United States Naval Academy, and made significant contributions to the modernization of the U.S. Navy.
