Adelphi (AG-181)


  • Laid down, 22 April 1945, as SS Adelphi Victory a Maritime Commission type (VC2-S-AP2) hull under Maritime Commission contract (MCV hull 760) at Permanente Metals Yard No. 2, Richmond, CA.
  • Launched, 2 June 1945
  • Delivered to the Maritime Commission , 27 June 1945
  • Laid up, 13 October 1947, in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River Group
  • Activated, 6 February 1951, for Korean War service
  • Returned to Maritime Administration, 15 September 1953, for layup in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Hudson River Group
  • Scheduled to be acquired by the US Navy in February 1966 for conversion to a Forward Depot Ship, the forerunner of the Fast Deployment Logistic Ships
  • Scheduled to be renamed Adelphi (AG-181) and placed in service with the Military Sea Transport Service
  • Program canceled, 1 February 1966
  • Activated, 24 July 1966, for operated by Isbrandtsen Lines Inc. under contract to MSTS to carry cargo to Vietnam
  • Returned to Maritime Administration, 9 January 1969, for layup in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Hudson River Group
  • Final Disposition, sold for scrapping pursuant to section 510(i) of Public Law 101-575, to Ever-Glitter International Ltd., for $361,201.05
