  • Laid down, 24 November 1943, as a Maritime Commission type (B7-D1) concrete-hulled barge, under Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 1335) at Barrett, Hilp & Belair Shipyard, South San Francisco, CA.
  • Designated IX-161, 7 February 1944
  • Launched, 18 February 1944
  • Acquired by the Navy and placed in service as Barite (IX-161) 31 August 1944
  • Barite was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and served as a floating lubricating oil facility at Ulithi, Saipan and Leyte
  • Placed out of service, 5 August 1946 at Subic Bay, P.I. and delivered to the War Shipping Administration for disposal
  • Struck from the Naval Register, 15 August 1946
  • Sold to the Asia Development Corp. in China, delivered, 23 April 1948
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown
