Captain John Thomas Frye, USN
Commanding Officer

CAPT John T. Frye is a native of San Diego, CA. He is a 1998 graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and is a Fellow at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies.

CAPT Frye’s operational assignments include service on both fast attack and ballistic missile submarines including service as Division Officer, USS KEY WEST (SSN 722); Engineer, USS LOUISIANA (SSBN 743)(BLUE); Executive Officer, USS CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI (SSN 705); and Commanding Officer USS HENRY M. JACKSON (SSBN 730)(BLUE). During these tours he completed deployments to the Western Pacific and Persian Gulf as well as six strategic deterrent patrols.

CAPT Frye’s shore assignments include COMSUBGRU SEVEN representative Singapore; Regional Employment Officer at Commander, Submarine Force Pacific; Current Operations Officer at Commander, Submarine Force Pacific; Deputy Director of the J7 Exercise and Assessments Directorate, European Command (EUCOM); and Director of Strategic Forces (N9) at Commander, Submarine Force Pacific. CAPT Frye assumed command of USS FRANK CABLE on 23 May 2022.

CAPT Frye’s personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards) and Navy Achievement Medal (4 awards) in addition to various other unit and campaign awards.
