  • Laid down, 6 May 1943, as a Maritime Commission, type (C3-S-A2) hull under Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 858) at Ingalls Shipbuilding Co., Pascagoula, MS.
  • Launched, 15 October 1943
  • Acquired by the US Navy, 17 December 1943 and placed in reduced commission for passage to her conversion yard at Hoboken, N J., LCDR. James H. Budd, USNR, (Ferry Crew #4) in command
  • Decommissioned, 30 December 1943 and turned over to Todd Ship Yards Corp., Hoboken, N. J. for conversion to a Submarine Tender
  • Placed in full commission, as USS Anthedon (AS-24), 15 September 1944, CDR. Richard E. Hawes in command
  • During World War II USS Anthedon was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater
  • Decommissioned, 21 September 1946, at New London, CT.
  • Laid up in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet
  • Struck from the Naval Register, circa 1968-1969
  • Sold to Turkey, 7 February 1969, renamed TCG Donathan (A-583)

    Anthedon - The Naiad-nymph of the well or fountain of the town of Anthedon in Boiotia (central Greece). Naiades were the nymphs of rivers, streams, lakes, marshes, fountains and springs. They were minor goddesses who attended the assemblies of the gods on Mount Olympus
