    89k Samuel Eliot Morison (09 July 1887 - 15 May 1976) was born and died in Boston, Mass., the city he loved. A college professor with a deep love of the sea at the beginning of WWII, he was the premier Naval Historian of the Twentieth Century by the end of it.     105k 10 April 2002: Naval Station Norfolk, Va. - U.S. and Turkish Sailors display their national flags during the transfer ceremony for the guided missile frigate ex-USS Samuel Eliot Morison (FFG 13). The frigate was originally commissioned 1 October 1980, and was the 7th ship in the Oliver Hazard Perry class. It was named for Rear Adm. Samuel Eliot Morison, one of America's most distinguished naval historians, who wrote more than 40 books on naval history. The frigate was transferred to the Turkish Republic as TCG Gorkova (F-496).
