---k | During a recent visit to an antique store I ran across three large sheets from an old scrap book. You know the type, large pieces of heavy black
paper with photos glued in place. Each photo was numbered and an accompanying legend provided details about each photo. After some research, I determined that the owner of the
original scrap book was Chester Stephen Morgan Jr. As an ensign in the U.S. Navy, he served aboard the USS Edward C. Daly (DE 17) during 1945 and 1946. My guess is that he took
most of the photos, although a few are of him. Mr. Morgan died in 2013 and my guess is that the scrap book slipped out of the family's hands as part of an estate sale. The photos
are of interest because they include a number of group shots. Most poignant is the photo of a burial at sea. It appears to be the burial described in the ship's log you already
have posted on NavSource. |
