Operational and Building Data
Laid down by Bethlehem Steel, San Francisco. March 26 1944. Launched October 5 1945 and commissioned March 21 1947.
Reclassified DDE-764 March 4 1950.
Completed FRAM upgrade November 1961.
Reverted to DD-764 June 30 1962.
Decommissioned and Stricken October 12 1972.
To Taiwan October 12 1972, renamed Dang Yang.
Stricken March 16 1999.
Fate Sunk as artificial reef October 31 2002.

Thomas 115kLloyd Thomas was born 10 March 1912 at Nelsonville, Ohio; graduated from Ohio University in June 1935; was appointed aviation cadet 4 October 1938; and commissioned ensign 26 October 1939. He Joined Torpedo Squadron 6 in Enterprise 13 December 1939 and a year later was promoted to lieutenant (jg.). He gave his life in his squadron’s immortal attack in the Battle of Midway 4 June 1942, and was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism and courage in combat.Bill Gonyo
