NR A MAINE GIRL WILL CHRISTEN HER.
The Cruiser Named for the City of Brotherly Love.
Tomorrow at Cramp's Shipyard in Philadelphia the new, unarmored cruiser Newark, which has been building since 1887 will be launched. The launching will be attended by a large party from this city. Miss Boutelle, of Maine, daughter of the chairman of the House committee on naval affairs, who was obliged to decline the invitation to christen the Concord, has accepted an invitation to christen the Newark, and will be accompanied by a christening party of four young ladles, Miss Carler, daughter of the Hawaiian minister, Miss Herbert, daughter of Representative Herbert of Alabama, and Miss Stetson and Miss Brown, of Washington. Mrs. Boutelle will accompany the christening party.

Rear-Admiral Kempff and the tars of the Newark are protecting the representatives of this government in Pekin at present from the members of the savage Chinese association known as the “Boxers.” The fact that Minister Conner asked to have marines sent for his protection is an indication of the seriousness of the situation.
