258k | Caption from the New York Tribune, 29 May 1921 - THE U. S. S. RANGER, one of the six battle-cruisers now under construction, which when completed will be the most powerful fighter on the seas. She is 874 feet long, displaces 43,500 tons, and the tremendous 180,000 horsepower of her electric system of propulsion will drive her at a speed of 33 knots. The Ranger mounts eight sixteen-inch guns as her main armament. Until our harbors are deepened and the Panama Canal widened ships of this type are the largest fighting craft that Uncle Sam can build. | Michael Mohl |
