A Model of USS Sangamon, by René Hieronymus

René Hieronymus, from Austria, has built this amazing 1/72 scale model of USS Sangamon. Please read the Story Behind the Model at the ModelWarships.com site.

Is the model of Sangamon on display for public viewing?

In March 2009 René wrote: "[T]he model is still here in Salzburg in my home. There are some plans to bring the model for display to the United States and some of the former crewmembers are trying to accomplish that. The National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Florida has already been in contact with me and I agreed to loan the model for a 3 year period to this museum. But unfortunately this is where this entire project stands and so far I have not heard of any more progress. Any help would be appreciated about this matter, because I think this model would be a wonderful way to tell the people about the history not only of this particular ship but of all CVE's."
