130k | Photo - Apollo of the Belvedere is a celebrated marble sculpture from Classical Antiquity. It was rediscovered at Anzio in the late 15th century (1489), during the Renaissance. From the mid-18th century, it was considered the greatest ancient sculpture and for centuries epitomized ideals of aesthetic perfection. The white marble sculpture, which is 7.3 feet high, depicts the Greek god Apollo. CC BY-SA 2.0 Dennis Jarvis, Halifax, Canada, via Wikimedia Commons |
